PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antibody against 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and its related compound for environmental monitoring. SOLUTION: A large amount of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) as a herbicide has long been applied to soil and is therefore accumulated in a large amount in soil. 2,4-D is slowly metabolized into 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DP) and is then accumulated. Although 2,4-DP is an important marker compound for grasping the historical background of pollution of soil or water with 2,4-D, a method for analyzing the compound in high sensitivity is not yet developed. A technique of simply and highly reproducibly assaying 2,4-DP amd 2,4-D in a concentration of several ng/ml is developed by making an anti-2,4-DP monoclonal antibody and establishing a competitive ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assey).
