PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fullerene where the produced amount of the fullerene per unit time can be increased than usual by increasing the supply of a source material for the fullerene and where the fullerene can be stably produced for a long time. SOLUTION: The fullerene is produced by burning a source gas containing a hydrocarbon and a gas containing oxygen which are discharged from a discharging part 21 located at a fullerene reaction furnace 11 into the fullerene reaction furnace 11. The mean discharging velocity of the gases from the discharging part 21 is more than 0.75 m/sec and 10 m/sec or less, favorably more than 1.5 m/sec and 6 m/sec or less, and then the yield of the fullerene to the carbon in the source gas containing the hydrocarbon and the containing-rate of the fullerene in by-product soot are increased.
