A tanker comprising a hull having a cargo section of at least one longitudinal row of centre tanks 15 and port and starboard wing tanks 16 separated from one another by transverse and longitudinal bulkheads 14, the longitudinal bulkheads extending from the bottom plating of the hull to the top plating, has an inner bottom 18 extending longitudinally at least the length of the cargo section and transversely to each side plating of the hull, the space between the inner bottom and the bottom plating of the hull being divided into a plurality of ballast tanks 19. Said space contains a tunnel 20 in which distributing pipes 23 extending from a pump have branch pipes 24, 25 in communication with the lowermost parts of the tanks. The bulkheads have stiffeners (27, Fig. 1, not shown) which to provide effective drainage are sloped one inch per foot of width.</p> |
