PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recorder by which the user can view and listen to another video data even when dubbing requiring real time. SOLUTION: This video recorder comprises a viewing and listening buffer 8 and an encode buffer 11. An MPEG 2 decoder 7 executes the decoding of VOBU for dubbing and the decoding of VOBU for viewing and listening in a time division manner, and writes the decoded result of the VOBU for dubbing in an encode buffer and writes the decoded result of the VOBU for viewing and listening in a viewing and listening buffer. An MPEG 2 encoder 3 encodes the decoded result of the VOBU for dubbing stored in the encode buffer 11. This MPEG 2 decoder 7 carries out the decoding and the writing with a processing rate higher than the displaying rate at a TV. A display control unit 10 reads the decoded result, which is written in the viewing and listening buffer 8 at the processing rate higher than the displaying rate by the MPEG 2 decoder 7, at the displaying rate to play back and output it.
