PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a video recorder connected to an IEEE1394 serial bus to record a program to be recorded even in the case that the present recorder does not incorporate a tuner adapatable to a frequency band of a channel of the program. SOLUTION: When the channel of a frequency band adaptable by the tuner in an external device is not selected but the channel of a frequency band adaptable by a tuner incorporated in the external device is selected (NO in S2), a control command for channel change is transmitted to the external device (S6), and an input line of a broadcast signal to a recording and reproducing part of the video recorder is switched to an input line from the external device (S7), so that a broadcast signal inputted from the external device is recorded by the recording and reproducing device of the present recorder through the IEEE1394 serial bus (S8).
