PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save the energy required in a firing process for eliminating dust of free silica generated from an inorganic fiber-based fireproof heat-insulating material by diminishing cristobalite possibly contained in the fireproof heat-insulating material by firing at a temperature lower than a conventional firing temperature. SOLUTION: The method for producing the inorganic fiber-based fireproof heat-insulating material comprises preparing slurry comprising at least one kind of an alumina fiber and a mullite fiber, an aluminum hydroxide powder and colloidal silica or slurry comprising at least one kind of transition state alumina containing boehmite and colloidal silica, then vacuum forming the slurry into a formed body, and firing the formed body at 1,200 to <1,400°C.
