A boring bar 1, Fig. 5, comprises a bush 32 located in a bore 4 of the bar, a ring 6 located in counter bores 39, 7 in the bush and bar, a nut 12 on the tool 9, and a second nut 15 keyed to nut 12 for rotation therewith by a sleeve 16 slidable on tool 9. Ring 6 is secured to bar 1 by axially arranged screws, and provides a seat 14 for nut 12. A pair of Belleville washers 25 urge nuts 12, 15 apart so as to take up backlash. In a modification, bush 32 is eliminated and ring 6 abuts a face in boring bar 1. In a further modification, a one-piece nut 42, Fig. 8, is provided with a number of transverse slots 54, which allow the parts 50, 47 to yield to take up backlash, the nut being held against a seat 45 by a Belleville washer 48. The boring bar insert is secured in the boring bar by radially arranged screws 57. Adjustment of the tool 9 is made by rotating the graduated nut 12 or 42. |
