<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate version up of a control program by a user even for an image forming apparatus in which maintenance is by the user. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming means provided with a photoreceptor, an exposure device 7, a paper feeding part 21, a carrying part 22 and an intermediate transfer unit 15, etc., and a control part 32 provided with a control part 32 with a CPU34 controlling the image forming means by executing a control program stored to RAM 33 are provided in a device main body. Nonvolatile memory 3Y, 3M, 3C and 3K to which control programs concerning image formation are stored are provided in processing cartridges 1Y, 1M, 1C and 1K, which are exchange parts that can each be attached to or detached from the device main body.
