PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single mode optical fiber that has a plurality of holes around the core and that sets the zero dispersion wavelength at 1.31μm band. SOLUTION: In the single mode fiber 11 in which the even number of holes 14 of at least four or more are formed on a coaxial circle with the core 12 center as the axis at equal spaces apart in the circumferential direction, the relative index difference of the core 12 and the clad 13 is set in the range of 0.45-0.7%, with the zero dispersion wavelength in the range of 1,300-1,320 nm.
