PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system wherein a plurality of endoscopic images can selectively or simultaneously be displayed and desired endoscope apparatus can be operated even in the case of displaying them simultaneously. SOLUTION: The endoscope system consists of: an endoscope switching apparatus 3 to which a plurality of endoscope apparatuses can simultaneously be connected; and an endoscope controller for controlling the plurality of endoscope apparatuses via the endoscope switching apparatus 3. The endoscope switching apparatus 3 comprises: an image compositing circuit 73 for combining video signals outputted from the plurality of endoscope apparatuses and generating a synthetic image signal with which the plurality of endoscopic images can simultaneously be displayed; and a switching apparatus control part 75 for controlling this image composing circuit 73. The switching apparatus control part 75 controls sorting of a controlling command from a remote controller or a P.C. to the corresponding endoscope apparatus on the basis of a character code transmitted from the system control part of the endoscope controller.
