PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound having high fire extinguishing performance as an alternative to a halon-based fire extinguishing agent which is under the government regulations because it causes ozone layer depletion. SOLUTION: The fire extinguishing agent contains the compound which is expressed by general formula: C<SB>n</SB>R<SB>2n+1</SB>-X-Y (wherein, n is an integer of 1 to 3; X is an aluminum atom, a carbonyl group, a silicon atom, a nitrogen atom, a phosphorus atom, a galium atom or a germanium atom, and Y is an organic or inorganic functional group), and also which performs a work to discharge perfluoro alkyl radical as active species.
