METHOD FOR PRODUCING DITRIMETHYLOLPROPANE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a high purity ditrimethylolpropane (di-TMP) simply and safely by removing colored components in separating and recovering the di-TMP from distillation pot residue in the production of trimethylolpropane. SOLUTION: This method for producing ditrimethylolpropane is characterized by comprising a process of obtaining a reaction product liquid containing at least trimethylolpropane and ditrimethylolpropane by performing the reaction of n-butyraldehyde with formaldehyde in the presence of a base catalyst, a process of extraction-treating the reaction product liquid with an organic extraction agent to obtain extract liquid, a process of separating trimethylolpropane by a distillation from the extract and obtaining the distillation pot residue, and a process of crystallizing ditrimethylolpropane by adding 0.6-10 fold weight organic solvent based on the residue to the distillation pot residue and treating at a crystallization temperature satisfying a specific formula for 0.1-20 hr.
