<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) for providing subscribers with a high-capacity/high-speed data service and real-time digital broadcasting/image service. <P>SOLUTION: The EPON includes: an OLT 300 which switches digital broadcasting and/or digital image data according to broadcasting and/or image selection information from a user, modulates the switched data into frequencies assigned to each user, couples a coupled broadcasting and/or image signal with a communication signal resulting from optically modulating communication data from an IP network, and transmits the coupled signal; multiple ONTs 400-1 to 400-16, which are configured for dividing an optical signal received from the OLT, into the broadcasting and/or image signal and the communication signal, converting the divided signals into electrical signals, demodulating the converted combined signal into assigned frequencies, outputting the demodulated information and the converted communication signal to a user, receiving from the user communication data and the broadcasting and/or image selection information, and outputting the communication data and broadcasting and/or image selection information to the OLT; and a divider 215 for dividing the signal from the OLT among the multiple ONTs, joining signals from the multiple ONTs, and transmitting the joined signal to the OLT. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
