<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop the output of data read from a blank page. <P>SOLUTION: When a user places an original the user wants to copy on an original platen and instructs reading, an image reader first reads the rear surface of an original page. A CPU of the image reader determines whether the rear surface page is blank (S1). When the page is not blank (S1, N), image data on the rear surface page is outputted to an electrophotographic process unit to form a rear surface image of the original page (S2). When the rear surface page is determined to be black (S1, Y), the output of image data on blank paper is stopped, showing that the read original page is blank (S3). Then, an image reading unit reads the front surface of the original page, performs the same processing as the above (S4, S5 and S6) and repeats this processing about succeeding original paper. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
