PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the instantaneous current required supply to the display in a period of sustain pulse application. SOLUTION: In a method comprising a a series of steps for succeeding image frames which each comprise sustain phase of display discharge regions which itself comprises the step of application of sustain voltage pulse Vs between electrode couples crossing the discharge region, during application of each sustain pulse, a trigger voltage pulse VMis applied to a group of the discharge regions, the pulse VMis applied successively and not simultaneously to many groups of the discharge regions.
