PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continue an image recording operation in relation to recording paper by a printing means, even if a paper delivery passage is closed by preceding recording paper. SOLUTION: When the recording paper P with images recorded by a printing part 34 is temporarily stored in a paper delivery buffer 26 and the recording paper P temporarily stored in the paper delivery buffer 26 is separated by a paper separation and delivery roller 54 by prescribed timing in this printing unit 10, the recording paper P is carried along a paper delivery guide passage 66 by a pair of carrier rollers 68 to be carried into a receiving guide passage 86 of a paper delivery unit 70. As a result, the recording paper P recorded with the images is immediately carried out from the inside of the paper delivery buffer 26 to the paper delivery guide passage 66, if the recording paper P is temporarily stored into the paper delivery buffer 26, other succeeding recording paper P is continuously fed from a paper feed hopper 20 to the printing part 34, even if the recording paper P is started to be carried to the paper delivery unit 70 along the paper delivery guide passage 66, and image recording can be started in relation to the recording paper P by an ink jet head 38.
