PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a near-infrared ray-absorbing coloring matter excellent in light resistance. SOLUTION: This near-infrared ray-absorbing coloring matter comprises an ion pair combination of a substituted benzenedithiol-metal complex anion represented by formula (1) and a polymethine coloring matter cation represented by a specific chemical formula. In formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each independently a 1-6C alkyl, 1-8C alkylamino, optionally substituted morpholino, optionally substituted piperidino, optionally substituted pyrrolidino, optionally substituted thiomorpholino, optionally substituted piperazine or optionally substituted phenyl group; and M is a transition metal atom.
