The floor element has a backing plate (10) of derived timber product or solid wood with the upper side covered by a composite layer (12) consisting of a sheet-form backing material (16) which is impregnated with a not completely hardened resin and expandable small thermoplastic balls, and a solvent in a portion of not more than 40 per cent weight. The composite layer and backing plate are interconnected by the action of heat and if necessary pressure. A wear surface and decorative layer (20) is applied to the composite layer and preferably has a surface sealing. An independent claim is included for a method for the manufacture of a floor element or floor.
