PURPOSE: An apparatus for opening and closing doors using a password having an imaginary number and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to combine passwords in various ways by arbitrarily varying orders of imaginary numbers and passwords. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for opening and closing doors using a password having an imaginary number includes an external unit(110) and a door open/close unit(120). The external unit includes an input termination key for setting an input termination state after the imaginary number and the password are inputted. The imaginary number is applied via a key pad irrespective of open/close state of the door. The password is combined with the imaginary number. The door open/close unit includes a microprocessor(112), an order setting button(124), and a password setting button(126). The microprocessor receives the password combined with the imaginary number and determines authenticity of the password on unit number basis. The order setting button sets a predetermined memory, the order of the password, and the order of the imaginary number. The password setting button sets the password.
