PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen storage alloy for obtaining a nickel-hydrogen storage battery superior in a charge/discharge cycle performance; a manufacturing method therefor; and a nickel-hydrogen storage battery superior in the charge/discharge cycle performance. SOLUTION: The hydrogen storage alloy comprising at least Mm (elements in lanthanide series and Y), Mg, Ni, Co, Mn and Al includes a main phase capable of occluding and releasing hydrogen and an Mn-Al phase. The hydrogen storage alloy is an AB<SB>5</SB>-type alloy which uses a raw material preferably having an element ratio of Mg to (Mm + Mg) in the range of 0.02 to 0.06. When the molten metal is cooled, slow cooling such as natural radiational cooling is recommended. The treatment for removing alkali-soluble components further enhances the performance of the nickel-hydrogen storage battery. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
