PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt coat rubber composition for a pneumatic radial tire which combines after vulcanization a high rigidity and a high resistance to thermal deterioration. SOLUTION: The belt coat rubber composition for a pneumatic radial tire is formulated with 6-10 pts.wt. of sulfur and 0.4-4.5 pts.wt. of benzoic acid based on 100 pts.wt. of a rubber component consisting of at least one diene rubber, and characterized by having a 100% modulus of≥9 MPa after the vulcanization.
