PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has micronized magnetic particles with improved dispersion and improved in dispersion stability of a magnetic coating material, is durable and particularly suitable in use for a tape using metal microparticles as the magnetic particles. SOLUTION: The subject polyurethane resin contains, as the constitutional components, (A) a polyester polyol containing 70-100 mol.% of a dicarboxylic acid expressed by formula (1) (wherein (n) represents an integer of 0-3) as the carboxylic component and a glycol having a side chain as the glycol component and (B) a polyisocyanate.
