PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass composition for imparting antibacterial properties in which problems such as discoloration and dissolution are hard to occur in the production and working processes of fiber, and having high durability, to provide an antibacterial composite material obtained by compounding the same into a chemical fiber, and to provide an antibacterial fiber obtained by spinning the antibacterial composite material and having high fiber strength and antibacterial properties. SOLUTION: The glass composition for imparting antibacterial properties is composed by adding 0.1-5.0 wt.% Ag<SB>2</SB>O to a glass composition consisting of, by mol, 30 to 60% P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, 5 to 35% of one or more kinds selected from K<SB>2</SB>O, Na<SB>2</SB>O and Li<SB>2</SB>O, 5 to 35% of one or more kinds selected from MgO, CaO and ZnO, 4 to 20% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 0.01 to 5% of one or two kinds selected from La<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>.
