PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an intermediate transfer belt from cracking at its end by making the gripping force of a driving roll uniform along the axis. SOLUTION: A rib 41 is provided at a side end part of an intermediate transfer belt 4 and slid while abutting against a rib guide 17 provided at an end of a driving roll 11 to guide an intermediate transfer body 4. Here, the rib guide 17 is made rotatable independently of the driving roll 11. Further, a gap G is formed by making the diameter D1 of the rib guide a little larger or a little smaller than the diameter D2 of the driving roll 11. Consequently, the gripping force decreases at both breadthwise ends of the belt 4 and the abutting force between the rib 41 and rib guide 17 by a walk of the belt 4 can be decreased.
