1293729 Grinding TEMPTOOL PTY Ltd 6 May 1971 [6 May 1970] 13552/71 Heading B3D A grinder for sharpening a tool blade 13, such as a chisel or plane blade, comprises a grinding means 4, a stripping means 5, and a tool carrier 7 movable transversely relative to the grinding and stripping means, the operative surface of the stripping means being located from the tool carrier by a distance greater than that of the grinding means whereby a blade carried by the tool carrier makes a greater angle with the stripping means than with the grinding means. In one embodiment, the grinding means and stripping means consist of wheels mounted at opposite ends of the shaft of a motor, the stripping wheel being of smaller diameter than the grinding wheel and having a surface of flexible material such as leather, Corfam (Registered Trade Mark) or other synthetic material. The tool carrier is slidable along and pivotable about a bar 6 parallel to the axis of the motor shaft and consists of a clamp for holding the tool. The casing of the grinder has a plurality of index marks 16 by which the tool can be set in the holder so as to be presented to the grinding and stripping wheels at predetermined angles. In operation, a bevel is ground or reground on the tool by the grinding wheel and the tip of the bevel is ground or lapped by the stripping wheel on movement of the carrier along the bar. In another embodiment, the grinding and stripping means are in the form of endless belts having their operative surfaces lying in parallel planes, the stripping belt being at a greater distance from the tool carrier than the grinding belt. |
