Device for removing amalgam from dental waste comprises flow regions and sedimentation regions arranged in a housing (10) having an opening (41) for introducing the waste and an opening (61) for removing the waste. A separator (30) made from foils is arranged in the housing. Preferred Features: A filling level meter (70) is arranged on or in the housing. The housing, in which an inlet chamber (40), a through-chamber (50) containing the separator and an outlet chamber (60), is closed up to the waste inlet and waste outlet in a liquid-tight manner. The separator is a molded body made from several foil layers.
