Sulphur and metallic impurities are removed from a petroelum residue oil by treating the oil with a liquid which acts as a hydrogen-donor, and a high-porosity inorganic adsorbent, at a temp. of incipient coke-formation and an excess press. of 35.15-351.5 atmos., using a ratio by wt. of hydrogen-donor : residue oil of 0.1-10, separating the liquid hydrogen-donor and the residue oil, freed from metal, from the adsorbent, and regenerating and recycling the adsorbent. About 90-95% of the V and 80-85% of the Ni are removed from the residue oil, without appreciable coking.
|
