Clear, concd. brine is produced by passing water along a zig-zag path between baffles in a tank which is kept filled with salt. The baffles extend vertically from the tank bottom to a height above the water level which is held constant at the depth of sediment resulting from impurities in the salt, i.e. with a full tank of industrial salt of 10% impurity, the water level is 10% of the tank depth. Progressive concn. by flow through the salt bed replaces mechanical agitation followed by filtration in the continuous prodn. of brine for ion exchange and other chemical processes.
|
