Method for operating and monitoring method a technical installation that has at least one regional operating region (OA1, OA2) assigned to an operating area (OA) using a portable operating and monitoring unit (MU) whereby: the current position of the operating unit is determined; the operating unit is assigned to a technical installation (M1, M2), based on its position and; human machine interface (HMI) data are loaded into the technical installation from the assigned technical installation. The invention also relates to a corresponding HMI system for implementation of the inventive method.
