<p>In the lance comprising a plurality of concentrically positioned pipes each separately associated to a nozzle and a top adapter assembly, the adapter assembly includes a bushing member (I) axially spaced apart from the central pipe, a bushing sleeve (II) spaced from (I) a piston sleeve between and in slidable fluid sealed engagement with (I) and (I), quick disconnect means (III) for removing the assembly, means for sealing (II) and (III) against fluid flow between them, means for feeding and exciting cooling fluid and means for feeding oxygen. At least the centrally positioned pipe is occasionally movable independently of the outer pipe to prevent mixing of fluids and safety means for venting to atmosphere any leaking O2 - or O2- contg. mixtures. The lance is pref. used in basic oxygen and open hearth furnaces.</p> |
