PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for monitoring a mobile phone by using infrared communication are provided to protect a user and his/her property against an illegal intruder without incurring an additional cost. CONSTITUTION: A digital signal processor(11) outputs transmission data sensible to infrared rays. An IrDA unit(12) transmits the data outputted from the digital signal processor(11) as an infrared code of a certain format. An IrDA unit(21) receives the infrared ray code from an infrared ray transmission terminal(10). A digital signal processor(22) checks a BER(Bit Error Rate) of the infrared ray code received through the IrDA unit(21) and determines whether an intruder has appeared based on the check result.
