931,112. Heat recuperators. BROWN FINTUBE CO. Feb. 2, 1961 [Feb. 8, 1960], No. 3972/61. Addition to 931,111. Class 64 (3). The recuperator of the parent invention includes heat shields for the recuperator tubes exposed to the direct blast of the hottest gas. In the improvement of the present invention the heat shields are made of heat-resistant material having a coefficient of expansion different from that of the recuperator tubes, being spaced from the tube by means which permit of relative expansion to avoid thermal stresses. The support means may for example comprise at the centre or at one, end of the tube a fixed bracket 67 (Fig. 4), in which the shield plate 66 rests or is fixed. The free end or ends of the shield plate are slidable in a further bracket or brackets 72. The shield plate may as shown in Fig. 18, comprise segments 115, 116 of ceramic material, which are slotted to be slidable on circular support members 117 spaced along and fixed to the tube 51. In the lowest segment 116 the slot extends only part way through so that the unslotted portion acts as a support for the remaining segments. The circular form of the support members 117 enables individual segments to be removed when required (see Fig. 20, not shown). |
