A striker assembly cooperates with a latch mechanism to latch a closure device over an opening of a motor vehicle. The striker assembly includes a base that is fixedly secured to the motor vehicle. The base defines a striker slot having an inboard end and an outboard end. The striker assembly includes a striker tha t extends through the striker slot and is movable therealong. A force generato r is fixedly secured to the base and is operatively connected to the striker. The force generator moves the striker along the striker slot. The striker assembly als o includes a drive plate defining a pivot end pivotally secured to the base and a movement end fixedly secured to the force generator. Movement of the movement end by the force generator pivots the drive plate about the pivot end to move the striker between the inboard and outboard ends.
