PURPOSE: A semiconductor optical amplifier and an optical amplifying module are provided to make the amplified optical signal have a low noise index by maximizing the bandwidth of the active layer in response to the requirements. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor optical amplifier includes a substrate(210), a first clad layer(220), an active layer(230) and a second clad layer(240). The first clad layer is stacked on the substrate. The active layer is stacked on the first clad layer and includes a plurality of sections having a different band gap along the longitudinal direction. And, the second clad layer is stacked on the active layer.
