MULTICAST TRANSMISSION METHOD IN A GEM MODE OF A GIGABIT-CAPABLE PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK AND A FRAME PROCESSING METHOD THEREOF, PARTICULARLY CONCERNED IN INCREASING A BANDWIDTH BY EFFECTIVELY TRANSMITTING A MULTICAST FRAME

PURPOSE: A multicast transmission method in a GEM(GTC Encapsulation Method) mode of a GPON(Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) and a frame processing method thereof are provided to enable a multicast transmission in a GEM mode of a GPON, thereby increasing a bandwidth by effectively transmitting a multicast frame. CONSTITUTION: An OLT receives frames from ONTs(61), and intercepts an IGMP frame by retrieving MAC addresses of the received frames(62). The OLT reconfirms that the intercepted frame is the IGMP frame(63), and confirms whether a multicast group address included in the IGMP frame is registered in an MIB of the OLT(64). If so, the OLT confirms whether stored MIB information is identical with an ONT number which transmits the IGMP frame(66). If not, the OLT assigns a registered multicast port ID, and registers new MIB information(67). A message for assigning the new multicast port ID is transmitted to the corresponding ONT to set a GEM multicast connection(68).
