PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for forming an image are provided to offer an optimal output according to grades of expendable supplies and satisfy various print requests of a user by classifying the expendable supplies as the grades. CONSTITUTION: A kind of the expendable supplies installed in an image forming apparatus is identified by each grade through a recognition part(S210). A set condition of a unit is searched, wherein an optimal output can be obtained from the unit by combination of the installed expendable supplies(S220). An output condition set in advance is reset on a basis of the combination of the expendable supplies(S230). An output is made by the reset condition in response to an output instruction of a user(S240).
