The apparatus to take a sample from a container, especially of blood for analysis, has a needle (5) to extract the sample which is rotated around an axis (X2) forming an angle with the needle and preferably a right angle. The needle slides within an outer needle (6), used to pierce the cap of the sample container. The needle is mounted on a balance (2) by a clip (9), which is operated by a belt and pulley drive mechanism (13-18).
