PURPOSE: An apparatus is provided to detect a broadcast receive channel by allowing the channel to be detected on a basis of a horizontal synchronizing signal without using a broadcast signal detector and an intermediate frequency filter. CONSTITUTION: A tuner(50) receives a broadcast signal from the outside. A signal separation part(60) separates a horizontal synchronizing signal from a broadcast signal received via the tuner. A microcomputer(70) detects a broadcast receive channel in response to a period of the horizontal synchronizing signal separated in the signal separation part. The microcomputer determines a broadcast channel as the broadcast receive channel in case that the period of the horizontal synchronizing signal ranges from 60 microseconds to 68 microseconds. A memory part(71) stores the detected broadcast receive channel.
