1,205,448. Treating polyester thread. L. D. KURTZ. 6 Oct., 1967, No. 45774/67. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions A5 and D1] Polyester multi-filament thread, e.g. braided thread for use as a suture, is stretched by up to 50% of its original length while at an elevated temperature below the melting point thereof, e.g. about 450‹ F. and is subsequently immersed in a liquid dispersion of particles of polytetrafluoroethylene and excess polytetrafluoroethylene removed while the thread is wet so that a thread having an exposed surface of polyester and polytetrafluoroethylene is produced. An aqueous dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene particles having a particle size of about 0À5 microns and containing a wetting agent may be used and after treatment the thread may be passed through a wringer. The thread may be cold-stretched at room temperature prior to hot-stretching. Up to 20% by weight of polytetrafluoroethylene may be applied to the thread. |
