PURPOSE: A television capable of storing voice signal data and a method of controlling the television are provided to save data of analog voice signals in an internal memory immediately while a user watches the television, thereby enabling desired voice data to be listened repeatedly and easily. CONSTITUTION: A voice processing part(130) converts an analog voice signal of broadcast signals or an analog voice signal from a reproducing unit into analog L(Left)/R(Right) sound. A voice data storage part(140) stores data of the analog L/R sound in an internal memory area. An audio A(Analog)/D(Digital) converter(141) changes the analog L/R sound to digital L/R sound. An encoder(142) encodes the digital L/R sound according to a compress format type set in advance. A memory(143) stores the digital L/R sound. A decoder(144) decodes the digital L/R sound according to the compress format type. An audio D/A converter(145) changes the decoded digital L/R sound to analog L/R sound as an output.
