Synthetic beta-wollastonite, of specific surface area pref. 3-100 m2/g, is made by treating an aqs. suspension of Ca(OH)2 and a siliceous component, in proportions to give SiO2:CaO ratio 0.7 to 1.3, pref. 1.0, in a solid mixture in proportion 30-80%, by heating it to 150-180 degrees C in an autoclave for 2-16, pref. 2-4 hrs., in the presence of fluxes and calcining the product, a hydrated calcium silicate substantially fre from quartz, at 800-1150 degrees C, pref. 800-850 degrees C. Ceramic body components in pottery, component of pigments. The process prepares beta-wollastonite substantially pure. |
