PURPOSE: A color cathode ray tube is provided to improve contrast by using a tint glass or a dark tint glass, and improve uniformity of brightness by maximizing screen transmittivity of a panel in a peripheral portion of a longer side of the panel. CONSTITUTION: A color cathode ray tube comprises a panel having a flat outer surface and an inner surface with a predetermined curvature; a funnel mounted on a rear surface of the panel; an electron gun inserted into a neck portion of the funnel so as to emit electron beams toward a screen(100); and a shadow mask having a plurality of electron beam passing holes, wherein the shadow mask is spaced apart from the inner surface of the panel. The formula 1.14<=BMd/BMc<=1.32 is satisfied so as to improve uniformity of brightness of the screen, wherein BMd is a black matrix width(120) of the diagonal end of the screen, and BMc is a black matrix width(110) of the center of the screen.
