PURPOSE: Provided is a waterborne composition having reduced surface tension by introducing the effective amount of N-alkylimide of tartaric acid and/or N-alkylimide of malic acid. CONSTITUTION: The composition comprises inorganic compound such as mineral ore or pigment, or organic compound such as pigment, polymeric monomer, oligomer resin, polymer resin, detergent, insecticide, weed-killer, fungicide or plant growth modifier with the effective amount of N-alkylimides of tartaric acid, N-alkylimides of malic acid or N-alkylimides of tartaric acid and N-alkylimides of malic acid in water to reduce surface tension. The N-alkylimides of tartaric acid, N-alkylimides of malic acid or N-alkylimides of tartaric acid and N-alkylimides of malic acid are present in amount of from 0.01 to 10% by weight of composition.
