<p>The title cpds. are of formula (I) where the X and Y rings are phenyl or pyridyl and R1 and R2 = X >=1 of lower alkyl, haloalkyl, hal, acyl, OH, alkoxy, acyloxy, thioalkoxy, sulphone, amino, or NO2. They are prepd. by reaction of the dicarboxylic acid anhydride with the appropriate amine. In an example, 11.8g. phthalic anhydride was treated with 10.2g. 3-chloraniline in methylene chloride, and the prodt. treated with KHCO3, then with CHl to give (I), X = Y = phenyl; R1 = 3-Cl; R2 = H, m.pt. 162 degrees C.</p> |
