A pierce nut installation apparatus (20) having a feed passage (44), a plung er passage (52) and a plunger (46) which reciprocates through the plunger passa ge (52) to engage and install a pierce nut (56) in a panel (58) opposite the plunger passage (52), wherein the end of the plunger passage includes a nut guide element (68) projecting from the end of the plunger (46) including a frustoconical outer surface having a major diameter adjacent the end face of the plunger substantially equal to the crest diameter of the pierce nut bore which accurately locates the pierce nut (56) on a panel (58) and prevents cocking of the pierce nut (56) in the plunger passage (52). |
