<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device which always yields excellent image characteristics by appropriately discharging deteriorated carrier in a developer without necessitating any special control. <P>SOLUTION: The developing device is provided with an upper space 53 where the developer consisting of toner and carrier is replenished and a lower space where the developer in the upper space 53 is introduced. The developer is circulated between the upper space 53 and the lower space 54, and the developer in the upper space 53 is supplied to a photoreceptor drum 20 by a developing roller 57.
