<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive side rail to be attached to either side of a bed allowing a user to stand up forward without converting the posture from the upright posture made by a back raising mechanism of the bed, capable of sufficiently preventing the user from falling down from the bed and firmly supporting the user as a grip when the user stands up. <P>SOLUTION: The side rail consists of a fixed fence part detachably attached to the bed and a rotating grip part mounted in the front of the fixed fence part to be rotatable around an axis in the front/rear directions. The fixed fence part is of such a size that the falling of the user lying on the bed can be prevented in the range from the shoulders to the knees as seen from the side.
