<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a fingerprint input device capable of providing a stable image with fine definition which is smaller than a conventional one. <P>SOLUTION: The fingerprint input device has a solid imaging device 1a whereon a finger 20 of a fingerprint input object person is placed, an LED chip 10 irradiating the finger 20 with light, a solid imaging device substrate 1 arranged with the solid imaging device 1a, and a wiring board 3 arranged with both the solid imaging device substrate 1 and the LED chip 10. A fingerprint image of the finger is read by receiving scattered light 20a from a fingertip interior of the light 10a illuminated on a fingertip from the LED chip 10 by the solid imaging device 1a while relatively moving positions of the fingertip of the finger 10 and the solid imaging device 1a. A protection member 30 is fixed on the solid imaging device substrate 1.
