PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film suitable as a base film for a mold release film that permits an accurate inspection when the inspection of a polarizing plate is performed by a so-called cross-Nicol method. SOLUTION: The polyester film for a mold release film has the characteristics that the inclination of a main orientation axis (an orientation angle) is not more than 8 degree, the amount of an oligomer extracted from a film surface after the mold release film is heat-treated at 150°C for 10 minutes is not more than 0.5 mg/m2and the surface characteristic resistivity is not more than 5×1013Ω.
