PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble metal working fluid composition which exhibits excellent rust prevention power while suppressing dissolution of a wax used for fixing a material to be worked. SOLUTION: The water-soluble metal working fluid composition contains a compound of formula (I) (wherein at least one of R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>3</SB>denotes a 2-6C hydroxy hydrocarbon group and the rest denotes hydrogen or a 1-24C hydrocarbon group) or formula (II) (wherein R<SB>4</SB>denotes hydrogen, a 1-24C hydrocarbon group or a 2-6C hydroxy hydrocarbon group), and comprises a compound of formula (III) (wherein R<SB>27</SB>to R<SB>29</SB>denotes hydrogen or a 1-24C hydrocarbon group, and the total number of C is from 1 to 36), wherein a solution of the composition shows a pH of from 7 to 12.
